The whispers of old Amerikay hop a train and plow through the deepest caves, back alleys, deserts, and valleys like a piece of fire-filled, molasses dipped coal rock shot from a 21-pound cannon barrel. The World of Man is a deep reflection of old acoustic traditions, tales, trials & the road paved day by day through this rough and rowdy ride.

Back to the Country | 2018

"new blues artist we now can't live without....Jody Carroll, whose textured blues and other roots were dark and haunting.."

Get Inside This House | 2010

A firestorm of a solo acoustic album housing mostly originals, but mixed with a handful of traditional songs selected from the medicine bag.

      Rain of Days   2006

Spellbinding original acoustic Blues/Americana with an impressive modern twist of fate. Bottleneck slide blues-based finger-style guitar playing and songwriting at its best; solo and with a powerful/highly dynamic band.

" His finger-picking and slide skills amaze and challenge listeners while his moving vocals draw them into the world of a true storyteller.."
Cascade Blues Association Portland, OR 2006

         Jody Carroll & WOODBRAIN

The most bad ass band in the land!

SWIMMING IN TURPENTINE               Dead or Live

Woodbrain_0348.jpg

“One of the best electric blues bands on the scene...Certainly this band has enough dynamite in its sound to blow up a small bridge.”  - jazz.com 2009

"A very new and very exciting vision of the blues — a fusion of the Delta and their own haunted visions. In a way, when performing... live they're like a classic jam band that can take a song and its theme for great lengths... but whatever they are, they're extremely innovative with a sound completely their own. Exhilarating and mind-enchanting."

— Cascade Blues Association |  2009

With a guitar/harmonica/bass/drums line-up, WOODBRAIN might be mistaken for a typical blues collective — at least until this fiery Portland, Oregon foursome begins to play, when it quickly becomes apparent they are potentially an evolutionary force in the genre.

Or several genres at once.

WOODBRAIN'S energy is incendiary; their music deeply rooted in tradition.

And yet their songwriting and improvisation pull those roots in all kinds of directions informed by the generations of Son House, Jimi Hendrix, and John Coltrane.

Without sacrificing an iota of heart or soul, their sound effortlessly skirts boundaries

to reach blues, rock, Americana, and jam scene listeners alike.

old blood | 2015

A brand new collection of 12 traditional American Blues and Folk tunes rendered by one of the finest singer/Songwriter/Guitarists around today. This tribute collection was recorded during the initial months of lock down n Jody's family recording studio in Lafayette Oregon.

These tracks represent his uniquely masterful versatility and raw power of interpretation spun within the folk process of tribute and continuance. His usual new bag of originals are set aside here to present his favorite sounds of old where he can stretch out and swim. As summer rolled on and the world became small, Jody Carroll gives us a look back in time beyond the rivers and snakes.
